W2k3 enterprise license key

I'd rather have the latest features than go with our original release version and not be able to get the R2 stuff. Might as well use and buy the R2 version up front. I decided to pull this to the front instead of start a new thread since I am currently at bullet point 2 in my OP. I want to be sure I have the process down before I do, though. I am experimenting on a virtual machine I setup. I tried to set it up just like our regular R2 Enterprise machine.

I installed the evaluation and all the updates and even SQL since that's fast and easy enough. I started the upgrade process after logging into Windows. I put the R2 retail CD in and started the upgrade process. So far so good, but I did hit a phase where it said I need to reinstall all of my hotfixes and patches for windows or something. Yowzah--wasn't aware I would have to do that.

Anyway, I guess I can handle that. I won't possibly see any other issues--such as things fouled up with my SQL server or other things changed, will I? If I'm going about this wrong, please tell me. You said that you have a W2K3 Enterprise media with key, this won't work by itself, when you try to install R2 on top of this, it will ask for an R2 Enterprise product key. The best method of install is to install W2K3 Enterprise with the R2 product key. Like you have already noticed, you can upgrade trial software to the 'real deal' without doing a total re-install.
